Tunisian Simple Stitch Tutorial – How to Crochet tss stitch
If you’re just starting out, the tss is one of the first stitches (if not THE first) that you should learn. This Tunisian simple stitch tutorial walks you through step by step how to work up this beginner stitch with both a photo tutorial as well as a video tutorial.

The Tunisian simple stitch has a few different names it uses.
- TSS – Tunisian simple stitch
- afghan stitch
- simple stitch
- tunisian basic stitch (I rarely hear this one)

Let’s get started

Chain any number of desired stitches
You will be working in the back ridge of the beginning ch (see fig.1),

Row 1 (FwdP): Working in back ridge of beg ch, insert hook in 2nd ch from hook, yo, pull up a loop, *insert hook in next ch, yo, pull up a loop, repeat from * across leaving all loops on hook.

Row 1 (RetP): Yo, pull through 1st loop on hook, * yo, pull through 2 loops, repeat from * across.
Row 2 (FwdP): Skip 1st vertical bar (directly below loop on hook), * insert hook under next vertical bar (see fig.3), yo, pull up a loop, repeat from * across to last bar, insert hook through both loops of last stitch. (see fig.4)

Row 2 (RetP): Yo, pull through 1st loop on hook, * yo, pull through 2 loops, repeat from * across until there is 1 loop left.
